Seasonal
Seasonal foods are closely linked to regional products. If you want to buy fresh, local food, it's also the ones that are in season!
You can find them wherever you go shopping: in a grocery store, discount store, or at a local market.
These seasonal products are often explicitly advertised and promoted.
For fruit and vegetables that are in season in Germany, you can also increasingly see information about the exact federal state where the produce was grown.
Seasonal shopping - so many advantages
Seasonal produce, such as strawberries in early summer, kale in autumn, or year-round oatmeal from Germany, is usually harvested at a riper stage and marketed directly – especially fresh produce. Our seasonal calendars also help you discover special products in each month.
Harvesting in nature
The season doesn't just mean shopping, but also picking your own produce from nature or in your garden/balcony. You'll also find suitable tips here, from dandelion leaves for salads in spring to wild herbs and the like.
Cultivation
By the way, there are also differences in seasonal produce; the season is sometimes extended through different cultivation methods. For example, growing in a greenhouse first takes place later than outdoor cultivation in the field. In Germany, we have a very narrow window where most vegetables and fruits thrive, so we think both options are good.
Pesticide use
For seasonal and regional products, the required use of pesticides is reduced equally; for organic products, this is even better, as only certain “auxiliaries” are permitted.
Freshness tops everything
The short delivery routes lead to many advantages: For you, the goods are fresher and contain more vitamins than stored goods or goods from distant countries.
At the same time, it is much more sustainable if the products do not have to be transported thousands of kilometers from harvest to your store.
Support your region
Picking your own strawberries at the strawberry farm or digging up potatoes is really fun:
Take a look around and see what you have to offer.
Use them as often as you can and support the people you support and show them your appreciation.
The principle of supply and demand also applies to a variety of different seasonal products: If we want to preserve this diversity, then we should also take advantage of it and use it.
Be inspired by what's in season right now, what's ripe and ready to be harvested, and how you can use it to create amazing dishes with our delicious recipes.
